A Simulant, commonly shortened to "Sim", is a CPU bot that can be added to games in the Combat Simulator. Various different difficulties can be chosen for the sims and their appearance can be altered. Their name cannot be changed, however, even though the Challenges have unique simulant names based on the characters they represent with randomly selected difficulties. Higher difficulties above Normal must be unlocked through completing the Challenges.
Simulants are also used in Perfect Dark's Co-Operative mode, called Perfect Buddies. However, they do not operate like multiplayer simulants, as rather than functioning similar to a human player, they behave much like enemy guards in singleplayer missions and do not respawn when killed. The Buddies other than Velvet Dark must be unlocked as cheats by completing certain missions in Solo at specific time and difficulty.
Simulant Types[]
Difficulty Levels[]
MeatSim: The MeatSim is the least complex simulant, scripted to a minimum. They run much slower than normal speed, and its accuracy is about 10%. For a player to be overwhelmed by a MeatSim, many have to be attacking at the same time. They are made to be equivalent of an utterly new player, sweeping from left to right trying to hit its target. Perfect for beginners.
EasySim: The EasySim is slightly more complex than the MeatSim. It still is slower than normal speed, and accuracy is scripted at about 30% and is able to disarm opponents. Good for practice.
NormalSim: The NormalSim is the default simulant for most battles. It was made to simulate a human player with average experience in playing Perfect Dark. Its accuracy is scripted at about 60% and runs the normal speed.
HardSim: HardSims represent good players. They move slightly faster than normal, and shoot with around 70% accuracy.
PerfectSim: PerfectSims represent expert players, and die only when its opponent has a stronger weapon. It is scripted to a complex level: It first gets weapons and ammo as fast as possible, then starts attacking enemies, or, alternatively, protects losing teammates. It is scripted to a level that it aims at enemies through walls. This makes it so it will fire immediately after its target runs out of cover. When the target respawns, it fires off one shot aimed directly at the respawn location, which is dangerous if a teammate as such is using the Rocket Launcher or Slayer. Its accuracy is scripted at about 80%, and moves significantly faster than normal. It can also use the Fly-By-Wire of the Slayer.
DarkSim: The most skilled and complex simulant, the DarkSim rarely fails at its objective. Unlike all previous simulants, it represents a superhuman level. Its accuracy is 100%, and any miss can be considered a glitch. Like the PerfectSim, it knows the exact location of its target and aims through walls, and does fire the respawn location. However, the range of it doing this is slightly increased. The DarkSim runs at nearly twice the normal speed. Designed for master players.
Perfect Buddies[]
Velvet Dark: The default Buddy Simulant for the Co-Operative mode and is also used for the second player. As the former, she is armed with a Falcon 2 and behaves like a generic enemy guard. Due to her basic firepower, she cannot defend herself well against heavily armed or shielded enemies, including the Skedar.
Puglilst: This Buddy resembles Daniel Carrington and is unarmed. He runs faster than normal and his fists have the ability to instantly knock out guards at the cost of being ironically knocked out himself immediately. Because Puglilst is never armed with a weapon, he is at a significant disadvantage in almost all missions.
Hotshot: This Buddy is a Carrington Institute guard and is armed with a DY357 Magnum and the lethal DY357-LX.
Hit and Run: A Mr. Blonde-like Buddy who is armed with a K7 Avenger.
