Perfect Dark is an upcoming installment in the Perfect Dark series—the first installment in the series since Perfect Dark Zero in 2005. It is a reboot, taking place in a different continuity from the original one.

Plot

The game's plot has been described as being "eco sci-fi." In a world that has fallen to ecological disaster, the megacorporations have provided solutions...at a price. For the average person, life is pretty decent. While on the surface, things seem hopeful, scratch the underbelly, and things aren't as clear.

The reveal trailer indicates the existence of dataDyne, as well as Joanna Dark, who is seen overlooking a city in Egypt.

Gameplay

The game is a first-person shooter, but leans hard into the "spy fantasy" inherent in the IP. The game incorporates parkour and immersive sim elements.

Development

The game is said to be a "reinvention" of the franchise. The developers intended to lean into the spy aspect of the game, to distinguish it from other first-person shooters.

The game was officially announced in 2021. Its game director left months later, followed by three years of media silence. The game was shown again at the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase.
