Miranda Sturgis was the chief of security in the Los Angeles office of Carrington Institute.
Biography[]
Early life[]
She was the daughter of Albert and Theresa Sturgis. She had a brother Jacob but all died in a car accident in 1993. The car fell into icy cold water, but someone saved her and her younger sister Carmen.
Carrington[]
Jonathan Steinberg recruited her to the Institute (Employee #: 982340293-kdDx). She resides at 22075 Boren Blvd, Unit 10A, Kellerher Gardens Development. Her appartment shows no personal taste. She had a lot of "get well" cards, and armed herself with a dataDyne MagSec 4. She visited every week Mercy/Fasthelp™ Private Medical Facility to see her sister.
Changing allegiance[]
Eventually she was taken by Core-Mantis OmniGlobal and blackmailed Miranda, saying how horribly she will die should Miranda doesn't cooperate. Actually she used the cards as a means of data transfer, and her sister's room as a dead drop for passing information.
There was a mole in the LA office working for dataDyne, and most suspicions fell on Sturgis, as well as programmer Jackson Abbot. Jonathan Steinberg and Joanna Dark worked in operation Janus' Tears to uncover them, with Dark posing as a disgraced agent to be reevaluated by Sturgis, even though she was not told of the "reason". For 2 weeks Dark attempted to enter her office to investigate, but she was unable due to Sturgis's security
While spying on Abbot, Dark eliminated a strike team of attackers and ended up in the corporation's hospital facility, and ordered Dr. Hwang to sedate and restrain her if she did not cooperate. However a saboteur there caused her to hunt him to the parking garage of the NW tower, and call security. Sturgis with her team showed up and surrounded Dark as she was about to hunt the intruder on a stolen bike. She ordered her men to disarm Dark and reprimanded her for not following orders. Dark claimed that her mistake was beating up a superior who got too close to her. With that, Sturgis ordered Dark to her office after her bleeding was "plugged".
Finally gaining access to her office, Dark continued to play unsubordinate and defensive to get on her nerves. Sturgis threatened to recommend her disqualification to Daniel Carrington. Dark explained what happened while discreetly plugging a listening device designed by Stanley Grimshaw under her desk. Sturgis told her to leave, holding her responsible for the 2 of her men killed during the assault.
Later Joanna escaped, and with the help of Stanley Grimshaw found her apartment, and attempted to hack her computer with a datathief; however her security proved higher than the device, and it was fried. During that afternoon, Miranda revoked Joanna's status.
Jackson Abbot discovered that Miranda's alpha codes were used to steal 70% of the datacore's contents. Attempting to alert her, he saw that she disappeared, off protocol, without locaters, and hadn't checked since 22:00. Combining the data, he said to Joanna that perhaps she was the mole. While Joanna breaks into the Mercy hospital and Carmen's room, Miranda is driving her car away, with a travel itinerary, an airline ticket, a meeting location at the dataDyne Spire, and wire transfer codes for almost 50000.
Death[]
Soon she is located by Jackson Abbot, and dropship Tango Seven flies Joanna after her over a residential neighborhood. Coming in front of her car, Joanna with a Sniper Rifle wounds Miranda and hits the car's wheels, causing it to tumble and crash.
Joanna landed and approached her, asking her to surrender, but Miranda started shooting and ordered her to go away. Knowing her sensitivity about her sister, Joanna mentioned her, and that she knew how she used her room. Miranda, bleeding and crying, said that CMO had Carmen. Joanna asked information about David Roarke and promised to help find her sister, but Miranda knew that she couldn't help her, fearing for Carmen's life. She aimed at her head and fired.
Trivia[]
- Miranda is said to be 33 in the file screen seen in issue #2. However in issue #3 her birth year is given as 1985 which would make her 35 years old in year 2020 (when Perfect Dark: Janus' Tears takes place)
- Her address is given as "22075 Boren Blvd, Unit 10A". In one panel of Janus' Tears #3 the block number is seen as "22075-10A", however later it is shown that 10A is her apartment number.
