G5 Building: Reconnaissance is the sixth level in Perfect Dark. The level is set inside the G5 Building, a place where Cassandra De Vries and her minions are directing a cover-up operation. Joanna Dark will have to sneak into the building and find clues about the conspiracy.

Briefing[]

  • Background: Once inside G5 Headquarters, proceed into the heart of the building where the meeting should be taking place. Obtain a visual record of the meeting and get out as quickly as possible.
  • Carrington: The G5 Building has an integrated alarm system. Watch out for any guards who see you, as they're sure to try and activate it. This will alert the conspirators, who will almost certainly not go ahead with the meeting under such circumstances. Softly, softly, Joanna.
  • Objective One - Disable damping field generator [PA]: A device in the car garage section of the building is preventing the transmission of any information recorded by the CamSpy. Once shut down, the CamSpy can relay any captured recordings back to HQ.
  • Objective Two - Deactivate Laser Grid Systems [SA, PA]: An examination of the power grid of the G5 Building indicates a network of laser grids. These grids are placed specifically to deny a route into the meeting room, but if you can turn them off, the way is clear.
  • Objective Three - Holograph Meeting Conspirators [A, SA, PA]: The CamSpy device is an excellent way to record the meeting without alerting De Vries and the other conspirators.
  • Objective Four - Retrieve Backup from Safe [A, SA, PA]: Dr. Caroll informed Daniel of a backup personality that is stored in a safe in the G5 Building. If we can obtain it, it would mean that we could restore the personality to Dr. Caroll at a later date.
  • Objective Five - Exit Building [A, SA, PA]: Destroy the blocked-up door to create your exit. If you remember which level of the fire escape is outside, you may save yourself some time.

Walkthrough[]

There are 5 objectives you must accomplish in this level:

  1. Disable damping field generator (PA)
  2. Deactivate laser grid systems (SA,PA)
  3. Holograph meeting conspirators
  4. Retrieve Dr. Caroll backup from safe
  5. Exit building

If playing on Special or Perfect Agent, you will have a detonator on you; Make sure not to trigger this until after finishing Objective 3 otherwise you'll fail the mission. After the first cutscene, two guards will cloak and run around; Only stopping to decloak and attack. Don't worry about them too much, just wait until they're exposed and kill them; Then retrieve the keycard, the second enemy drops and proceed through the door.

Around the corner, down the other end of the ramped corridor, there's another guard tending to a switch. Kill him and activate the console; This'll switch off the lights in the next room but it wouldn't be much of a hinderance later on; If you're feeling extra adventurous, you can aim down at the hallway below to pick off one of the guards patrolling in the generator room, saving you having to take him on much later on a Perfect Agent run.

Run into the next room but when you try and make for the next door, the one behind you will lock and the lights will turn off (or turn on, if they were off already) and four more cloaked guards will spawn in. Take your time and shoot each one who exposes themselves and pick up the keycard, the fourth one drops, then proceed into the next door.

A lone guard patrols this small passage, with steps going up into the next room. Kill him and make your way in. In this small hub, you'll find the first alarm switch, on the other side of the room to your right; Along with three guards. If any of the sentries spot you, they will try and make for the alarm, and fail the 3rd Objective. Kill them quickly.

Disable Dampening Field Generator (PA)[]

Go through the door, to the right of the alarm and make your way downstairs into the generator room. Two guards are stationed here (or one if you managed to snipe him from the corridor above.) and eliminate them. Make sure not to get the equipment caught in the crossfire as they're a little sensitive. Once the two men are down, make your way over to the console and deactivate the generator. Make your way back up to the hub.

Deactivate Laser Grid Systems (SA, PA)[]

Three laser gates bar your way across the cable rack and are disabled through three switches: One by the steps leading to the wires, another opposite the alarm switch, and one mounted halfway along the catwalk above. Turn them all off so you can make your way through.

Holograph Meeting Conspirators[]

Using the cable walkway, carefully make your way along it until you reach the second crawlspace. Get your CamSpy out and gently navigate it along the rest of the way until you reach the last crawlspace overlooking the meeting room and then the cutscene will play. Either let it play or skip it entirely before crawling through and jumping down into the next hallway below. Some guards will try and make for the alarm here by the door ahead of you. If you've completed the meeting then you won't have to worry about it but the constantly spawning guards might make your life a little harder; Take them out quickly and make your way up to the next floor.

Retrieve Dr. Caroll's backup from Safe[]

Once on the next floor, some guards will be stationed here, two by the door leading into the vault, while another patrols the hallway leading to the stairs. Take them out and enter the vault's room and look to the console to your right. Get out your Decoder, as Grimshaw warns you that it'll take a while to open, and place it. A timer will start counting down from 30 seconds and guards will start spawning to stop you from completing your mission. Wait by the vault door and kill them as they enter through the door until the timer finishes and the vault door slowly opens behind you. Retrieve the backup and rush out towards the exits by the stairs.

Exit Building[]

On Agent, Carrington will inform you that they will blow open the exit on the floor you're on. Otherwise, get your Detonator out and trigger the explosives placed earlier. The floor it occurs depends on where you've placed the Remote Mine in Chicago: Stealth earlier, so you might need to use the stairs if it was placed on the 1st or third floor. If you haven't played the mission earlier then run up to the next floor to grab the mines, throw them at the door near you and detonate them to get out.

Tips[]

  • If you want to cut some time, place your Camspy into the crawlspace, not going far enough to activate the Meeting; Then head to the vault. Once the decoder has been placed, quickly reactivate your CamSpy and fly it forward to activate the cutscene. The timer will start but you won't have to defend yourself as it plays. Once the timer has finished, skip the cutscene so you can complete both Objective 3 and 4 at the same time.
    • Make sure you don't let the guards trip the alarm, once you've positioned the CamSpy.

  • Falcon 2 (silenced): Equipped from the start
  • CMP-150: Carried by guards
  • DY357 Magnum: Carried by SWAT guards
  • Crossbow : Knock out the first two cloaking guards, and the second one will drop it
  • Remote Mine: Equipped from the start for escape route
  • N-Bomb: Found near the safe and near an exit.

The cheese can be found in the same room as the damping field generator. It is in a vent as soon as you enter the room, turn right to find it.

Bow to the Audience

- REQUIREMENTS: Kill eight enemies using the hidden Crossbow's "Instant Kill" Alt. Fire on Agent difficulty.

  • To get the Crossbow, simply knock out the first two guards you encounter (the ones that are cloaked) either with your Fists or with the Falcon 2 Silenced's "Pistol Whip" Alt. Fire. After doing this, switch the Crossbow from "Sedate" to "Instant Kill" and kill eight enemies with it. If you fire and miss any shots with the Crossbow, you can pick up the Crossbow bolts by walking next to or over them. After a while, any guards that have been killed will eventually de-spawn from the level. When this happens, any bolts that made contact with him can be picked up and used again.

Cheats[]

Small Jo

- REQUIREMENTS: Beat the mission on any difficulty.

  • This Cheat makes Joanna shrink to a size smaller than that of a Maian, as well as making her float during cutscenes. Joanna's health, along with gun and melee damage, is unaffected by this Cheat.

Cloaking Device

- REQUIREMENTS: Beat the mission in under 1:40 on Agent difficulty.

Connect the Game Boy Color version of Perfect Dark to the Nintendo 64 using the N64's Transfer Pak (Nintendo 64 Version), Install a copy of Perfect Dark Zero on your Xbox 360's Hard Drive (Xbox Live Arcade Version)

  • This Cheat will allow Joanna to begin any mission with the Cloaking Device in her inventory.

Failure N-Bomb Grab[]

One way to obtain the N-Bomb in the game is to purposely fail. This is purely for fun if you want to try out the bomb or kill a lot of guards. Once entering an area with 2 guards, one will run to an alarm system. You can either allow him to trigger the alarm or do it yourself, either way it is successful. After the alarm goes off, a door to the left of the alarm (That was previously locked) will open, and guards will spill in. These guards will also carry DY357 Magnums. Continue up the stairs until you come to a red lit room, in which you will find a box which is the N-Bomb. This is very dangerous, and many guards attack. If you kill as many guards as you can, your final kill amount will be 71.
