The DY357-LX is a customized version of the DY357 Magnum produced by dataDyne, specifically designed to be more luxurious, but deadly.
Overview[]
The DY357-LX is an extremely powerful gold-plated revolver with real tiger fur on its grip, and an obvious reference to GoldenEye 007's infamous Golden Gun since it also can kill any enemy instantly with a single shot, making it the strongest weapon in the game alongside the FarSight XR-20. A rare, exclusive handgun, it is the signature weapon of choice of Trent Easton, as it was explicitly created for him. However, although Trent is technically the owner of the fatal splendor weapon, the traitorous NSA director is not the only wielder of the DY357-LX within Perfect Dark. Two of this firearm were also seen in hands of one particular Area 51 enemy guard in the bonus mid-story mission Maian SOS; It is unknown whether or not this is considered canon, or if the game developers just wanted to provide a good target for using the Psychosis Gun, though it is most likely the latter's case. In addition, it is also used by the Co-Op Perfect Buddy Hotshot (as well as Jonathan Steinberg's DY357 Magnum). According to the firing range's description, Easton was constantly looking for an advantage, and as a result, the revolver itself, with luxury in mind, is a modified DY357 designed to have maximum velocity and has custom-made bullets meant to shatter inside targets for lethal effect (dum-dum rounds).
"Trent Easton is always looking for that extra edge, and this gun is no exception. The bullets are as special as the rest of the gun; they are designed to shatter inside opponents to take them down quickly."
Despite this, the DY357-LX shares the same type of ammunition as the regular DY357 Magnum during gameplay and it also simply penetrates through enemies and objects like said weapon. However, its fire rate is slightly slower due to its far greater raw power.
Appearances[]
- Air Force One: Antiterrorism - Carried by Trent. Although it cannot be stolen from him under normal circumstances, it is however, possible to do so in Co-Op mode with two human players present, through a glitch. To do it, one player must be in the room were he and the two Mr. Blonde guards spawn after the Skedar Shuttle attaches itself to Air Force One and throw a Timed Mine on the wall. If done correctly, the explosion will kill the two Mr. Blondes and even Trent Easton himself before his near-unbreakable Shield will activate, making him drop the DY357-LX.
- Crash Site: Confrontation - Trent is also carrying the weapon here, where it can be taken by quickly disarming him. It will have only 10 rounds (six in the weapon itself and four in reserve). It will have less ammunition than this on higher difficulties; 7 rounds on Special Agent, 5 rounds on Perfect Agent.
- Maian SOS - A certain guard in this level dual-wields the DY357-LX, but they only carry a single round between them when dropped, as this enemy is meant to be shot by the Psychosis Gun.
- The Duel - Again, carried by Trent (though it's a Simulant in this mission).
- The DY357-LX can also be seen dual-wielded with a regular DY357 by the unlockable Co-Op Buddy Hotshot.
- An unlockable cheat is dedicated to this weapon to make it available in any mission.

Trivia[]
- Although unrelated to the DY357-LX itself, Trent Easton carried and dropped a Cougar Magnum from GoldenEye 007 in a pre-release trailer. Joanna is never shown using it in said trailer, but a Combat Simulator shot of it in a player's hands does exist. That weapon was replaced with the DY357 Magnum in the final game.
- The unlockable cheat's name that is used to immediately obtain the DY357-LX for single-player mode is called "Trent's Magnum". This is unique, as all other firearm-based cheats say their respective weapons' actual name.
- Notably, the Xbox Live Arcade re-release of the game has the DY357-LX's shiny golden textures changed into a dark saturated yellow, which is met with criticism, with fans calling the updated model ugly and the color resembling cheese.
- Despite Easton being the original owner of the DY357-LX and the revolver is custom-made for himself, he is just one out of three characters in Perfect Dark who actually wields the elegant, but deadly firearm. The others are the special Area 51 guard in Maian SOS who carries two of them and the Co-Op Buddy Hotshot, who wields one in addition to the standard DY357 Magnum. However, because the Area 51 enemy guard is from a bonus level (though it's linked to the main storyline) and is intended as a target for the Psychosis Gun, his use of the DY357-LX(s) are likely not canon.
- Under normal circumstances, being one of the rarest weapons in the game exclusively held by NPCs, the DY357-LX, similar to the Golden Gun from GoldenEye 007, does not have much ammunition available in the few missions it can be legitimately obtained, as stealing it from Trent in Crash Site or intentionally killing Hotshot in Co-Op mode gives the player 5 to 10 rounds (based on selected difficulty), and Maian SOS - the only mission seen dual-wielded, has the two weapons carried by the Area 51 guard containing just one round each. This limitation can only be bypassed by acquiring DY357 Magnum pickups, or through the use of cheats to simply give Joanna the weapon and/or enable Unlimited Ammo.
- Due to a programming bug, when the player swaps the DY357-LX for a different weapon after being fired and then re-equips, its magazine ammunition does not automatically refill. This also happens with its regular DY357 counterpart.
- Like the normal DY357 Magnum, enemy guards killed by this weapon can be knocked backwards due to the great force of its high-caliber rounds.
- Much like the FarSight XR-20, the DY357-LX combines instant-kill damage with penetration capabilities, resulting in devastating effects; It is so powerful, it can occasionally shoot through Shields and still kill such enemy with a single shot even in 1000% health setting in Perfect Dark difficulty. Unlike the Maian railgun, however, the golden magnum does not shoot through walls, but compensates with its slightly faster fire rate, can use auto-aim, and is able to be dual-wielded through cheats, making it highly considered one of the most overpowered weapons in any First Person Shooter video game, sharing this feat with the FarSight itself. Despite this, the DY357-LX did not receive as much of a cult-following in the Perfect Dark community in comparison, however, due to it simply being the "Golden Gun" variant of the DY357 Magnum.
- The weapon order, mineral-plating, damage comparison, and shared ammunition of the DY357 Magnum and DY357-LX could possibly be a reference to the Silver PP7 and Gold PP7 seen in GoldenEye 007.
- Following this, the DY357-LX, due to it carrying 6 rounds in its magazine instead of one, shares the advantage of the Gold PP7 (which held 7) that unlike GoldenEye's Golden Gun, it does not require to be reloaded after every shot. However, due to its high recoil, its fire rate per shot is roughly the same as the aforementioned weapon based on the time it takes to reload before firing, therefore it is slow. All the same, this weapon is the deadliest of the three related lethal weapons in raw power due to its higher caliber.
- Unlike the DY357 Magnum where in single-player mode NPCs can fire the weapon multiple times like pistols, characters carrying the DY357-LX will only fire it once, often in much slower succession had they happen to walk toward their targets, lasting several seconds in delay for each round (except when dual-wielded, which they will shoot relatively faster), presumably for balance reasons. This can easily be seen with Hotshot when encountering the Skedar King in Skedar Ruins: Battle Shrine. The aforementioned behavior does not apply to Combat Simulator, however.
- Coincidentally, the original Golden Gun, from Ian Fleming's 13th and final James Bond series novel, The Man with the Golden Gun, posthumously released in 1965, was a gold-plated revolver. Although intended as a homage to GoldenEye 007's (and most later Bond video games) use of the custom-built, single-shot .165 caliber pistol counterpart from the 1974 film adaptation, the DY357-LX's design in Perfect Dark is very similar to the initial book version of Francisco Scaramanga's notorious weapon and is indeed identical in functionality, as it also shares specially designed lethal silver-jacketed 24K solid gold dum-dum bullets (as seen on the first edition cover), though the game's golden magnum by comparison is based on a .357 Colt Python rather than the .45 Colt Single Action Army, and is the weapon of choice of a corrupt U.S. government agent instead of a professional hitman.
- In Ian Fleming's novel, the main antagonist, Scaramanga himself, famously known as "The Man with the Golden Gun", is a rich, arrogant world-class assassin whose extreme shooting talents rivals, if not surpasses even that of James Bond's. At least 50 people, alongside quite a few secret agents meant to take him down, were murdered by his Golden Gun due to his marksmanship skills before ultimately being confronted by 007, as the MI6 spy's mission authorized by M is to assassinate Scaramanga - IF he can. The deadly villain also carried a golden Derringer as a backup weapon, with itself having its single bullet coated with snake venom. In the film, he was played by the late Christopher Lee, who is actually Fleming's step-cousin (and was originally planned for the role of Bond). In Combat Simulator mode, it is possible to make a character resemble Scaramanga by wearing the white Dinner Jacket and wielding the DY357-LX, and can be simulated further by also setting a Simulant as a PerfectSim or especially DarkSim with only the weapon itself available in the map.
